Howard J. TatarLaden with equipment, a heavy backpack can tend to weigh us down.

Photographers can spend endless hours at perfecting technical skills and, while necessary, it is easy to get caught up in the misconception that an artist is best defined by his mastery of these tools. The ability to see, feel and create has nothing to do with the purchase of equipment or how much they cost. The requisite for creativity is not found in camera instruction manuals or a special button on the camera to press. It is inside you.

My goal is to create visual statements that go beyond documentation and to photograph intimately and with feeling.

“Merely copying an object is not art. What counts is to express the
emotion called forth in you, the feeling awakened.”
- Henri Matisse
